The season of giving is quickly approaching! SPC has many opportunities for you to spread the love of Christ with God’s children. See below for your connection to giving for 2023.
HOMEAGAIN’S HOLIDAY HOPE
Through HomeAgain’s Holiday Hope program, new wish list items are purchased and wrapped for clients registered in their housing programs. It is HomeAgain’s largest volunteer-driven event of the year. In the narthex is a tree with cards that list a HomeAgain client’s wish list. Please spread the joy of Christmas by taking a card and following the directions on the back. Deliver wrapped and tagged donations back to the Holiday Hope tree by Sunday, Dec. 3. Please contact Gina Ahern (gwagahern@gmail.com) with any questions.
CHRISTMAS MOTHER
We will be helping the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program bring the joy of the holidays to Chesterfield families! There are two ways to help, donation and hands-on opportunities!
Donations
Coats: We will be collecting new or gently used coats for the Chesterfield/Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program. Please drop coats to the narthex now through November 26th.
Gift Cards: We are also collecting gift cards for Christmas Mother to be used as gifts for their families or to purchase toys, gifts, etc. They prefer gift cards to Walmart, Target or Amazon and the suggested amount is $25. There will be a basket on the table in the narthex beginning Sunday, Nov. 26 to put them in. Gift cards should be returned by December 10th.
Hands-On
Christmas Mother is looking for volunteers to help sort clothing items on Dec. 4 from 9:00 – 1:00 at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds. They will also need help on Dec. 5, 6, 7 to act as “Volunteer Shoppers” with the families they serve. Please use this link to sign up to be a Christmas Mother Volunteer.
RISE AGAINST HUNGER
The mission of RAH is to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies. In 2024 we are trying to double our food-bag production, so we must double our monetary donation! Rise Against Hunger has been selected to receive all the Sunday School offerings through December. Please donate to the offering in your classes to help this SPC mission partner!
POJ DISASTER RELIEF FUND
The Presbytery of the James reaches out around the world to aid in disaster recovery and relief. If you would like to contribute to a specific world disaster area, please indicate, in the note section of your donation, the direction your monies should be sent (Ukraine, Haiti, Turkey, etc.).
ST. MATTHIAS FOOD BANK
St. Mathias welcomes volunteers from SPC to help in the food pantry. Please contact Linda Hudgens (Lbhudgens@gmail.com or call/text her at 804-347-4243) for initial registration; you’ll then receive a Sign-Up Genius link for future days/times. Children are welcome to help with their parents, but Linda will need advanced knowledge so they will have a Child Protection Policy trained staff member in attendance. First time volunteers will be paired with experienced helpers for training. The church is located at 11300 West Huguenot Road.
Volunteers are needed:
Monday, 5-7 p.m. – Pack groceries and/or greet guests
Tuesday, 11-Noon – Unload groceries from FeedMore
Wednesday (set your own time anytime from 10-2 for approx. 1 1/2 hours) – Pack meals for in-need Carver Elementary students
Thursday, 9-12: Pack groceries
Thursday, 9-11 and/or 11-1: Greet guests
ANGEL TREE
Angel Tree is a Christian based program of Christmas gift giving to children who have an incarcerated parent. Our church members have the opportunity to select an angel from the tree and purchase the requested gift for the child on the angel. It is suggested that the gift you purchase be in the $25 range. The Angel Tree will be in the narthex until Sunday, December 17. All gifts should be returned to the narthex, wrapped with the angel attached, by Wednesday, December 19. Call or email Sue Casey with any questions. 804-651-0185, tvols@verizon.net.
