CARITAS – IS – in THIS HOUSE!  October 27 – November 3

CARITAS is often the first to receive people entering the Richmond shelter system.  Please lend a helping hand to our neighbors as we host 32 women seeking shelter through CARITAS in our Fellowship Hall.  Signups are in the narthex.

As CARITAS quickly approaches, there are still NEEDS that must be met…

We still need a few volunteers to spend the night at the church.

This is all it requires:

  • Show up between 9:30-10 p.m. and go to the Youth Activity Room to check in with the CARITAS volunteer. Sleep through the night until 6 a.m. the next morning and leave.  Why do we provide overnight members if there is a volunteer from CARITAS that stays in the FH with our guests?  Our church member is there just in case there is an issue with the “building.”  In case there should be an issue, our member calls our Building and Grounds team and they will take it from there.  EASY PEASY!

We need a few more people to setup on Saturday morning, October 27 (time TBD) and breakdown on Saturday morning, November 3, 8:30 a.m.

This is all it requires:

  • Setup involves bringing in mattresses, luggage and bedding from the CARITAS truck and setting it out for our guests. TOTAL TIME – ONE HOUR!  We need a few more people to breakdown on Saturday morning, November 3 – at approximately 8:30 a.m.  Breakdown involves taking mats, luggage and bedding to the CARITAS truck when it arrives.  TOTAL TIME – ONE HOUR!  EASY PEASY!

We still need a few women to chaperone shower time at Salisbury Country Club.

This is what it requires:

  • Be at FH at 7:30 p.m. A van driver will take our guests and you over to the showers.  Sit in the locker room while guests shower.  Return with the group and see if another group wants to shower.  You are done by 9:15 p.m.  EASY PEASY!

We are still in need of a few van drivers.

This is all it requires:

  • Drive the van to and from the country club between 7:30 and 9:15 p.m. You must have permission from the church to drive the van for liability purposes.  EASY PEASY!

Donations are STILL NEEDED!  The following items are needed for our guests:

  • Individually wrapped candy
  • Brushes/Combs
  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • 7 cases of bottled water (32 to a pack)
  • Individual snacks
  • Paper plates/napkins/plasticware
  • Case of Pepsi or Coke and case of Sprite
  • Granola bars
  • Bath and Body Works items for prizes
  • VERY GENTLY USED luggage on wheels – large

Adorable Dogs needed for a fun evening with our CARITAS guests.

Do you have the cutest, most well-behaved dog in the neighborhood?  How about one that just loves belly rubs?  If so, would you be willing to introduce them to our CARITAS friends on Monday, October 29th?  We’re thinking it would be fun for them to hug and love on our four-legged friends, as well as be amazed by their tricks.  (If their trick is just looking adorable, that’s ok!)  Please email Kathy Hostetler at khostetler16@verizon.net by Friday, October 19 if you are willing to join us for the evening.  We’ll introduce all of the dogs and owners after dinner (around 7:45 p.m.), giving our guests time to interact afterwards.  Your dog should be loved, rubbed, hugged and ready to go home by 8:45 p.m.

If you have questions please contact Lynn Wiard at clwiard@gmail.com.

God does not call us to judge.  He does not call us to decide who gets what.  He does call us to lift the fallen, to restore the broken and to heal the hurting.  Let the Holy Spirit guide you and work through you!
