Dear Prospective Disaster Relief Volunteer:
I am putting another team together to help with the recovery from Hurricane Ian in Southern Florida. We have been on 3 trips to Florida so far, and we are still seeing damage that is almost untouched by volunteers… Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on Florida both on the coast and inland. This trip is being sponsored by Southminster Presbyterian Church with some help from the POJ. The dates are September 30th through October 7th, 2023. We are going inland again to Hardee County, FL to the town of Wauchula. It is a small community with much devastation and not much help so far. We just got back from there in May.
As usual, we need able bodied people who can get in there and get to work. Any skill level is helpful now. These people will be coming up on a year since the hurricane and homes are still a mess. We will be rebuilding. I am looking forward to having a team of 20+. Right now I have 10 volunteers: Barry, Betty, Brint, Jeff M, Jeff W, Laura, Rick, Stan, Wade, and myself. Please give serious consideration to being part of this mission.
We have a nice place to stay with a kitchen and we have a volunteer cook . We will use our own air mattresses (or use their cots) and our own sleeping bags.
The workload looks like carpentry, drywall finishing, plumbing, and painting. I am sure by the time we go there will be other tasks also. I promise you three things – 1. We will do manual labor (at your own pace) and you just might develop a skill you never thought you would have – 2. You will have one of the most positive experiences of your lifetime – 3. You will be making a huge difference in the lives of some very grateful people.

For those of you new to missions with us, there is a training session from 6pm to 9pm on September 6th, at my home, 2847 Rams Crossing, North Chesterfield, VA 23236. It is a “working” meeting so please wear work clothes. It will familiarize you with how things will go on the trip, what you need to bring, and safety.
On a side note, I will be traveling from September 10th to the 23rd, just prior to this mission trip, so if you email me then I may or may not be able to get the email or to respond. I will be overseas, but I will try.
