Lenten Dinner & Study

March 6 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until April 10, 2019

Wednesdays, March 6 – April 10

6:00 p.m. – Dinner

6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Study

Six Wednesdays in Lent adults will study Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week by Amy-Jill Levine. Levine delves into the history and literature surrounding the last days of Jesus’ life, setting the narrative in historical context and analyzing the risks and motives of the story’s characters. “From Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem to his prayerful agony in Gethsemane, Levine brings forward aspects and details that open doors for beginners and we as seasoned readers of the Bible. She shows how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.”

Here is a breakdown of the study:
March 6 – Jerusalem: Risking Reputation
March 13 – The Temple: Risking Righteous Anger
March 20 – Teachings: Risking Challenge
March 27 – The First Dinner: Risking Rejection
April 3 – The Last Supper: Risking the Loss of Friends
April 10 – Gethsemane: Risking Temptation

You can catch a glimpse of the study by clicking here.

Children will have a special study during Lent as they hear and experience the Easter story through the lens of science! Four science experiments will help children connect and better understand some of the events of Holy Week, including Palm Sunday, Peter’s denial, the death of Jesus, and Jesus’ Resurrection.

We encourage everyone to RSVP by calling the church office or emailing Lydia Woods no later than the Monday before each Wednesday study. You may also register for multiple Wednesdays, just let us know which Wednesdays you will be attending.
