Dear Salisbury Presbyterian Church Members and Friends,

We are excited to introduce the new Pastor and Head of Staff of Salisbury Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. James C. King. Jim comes to us from the First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where he has served as Pastor and Head of Staff for the past 16 years. Prior to that call, he served as Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Life at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, New Jersey. His formal ministerial training includes a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He will begin serving at Salisbury Presbyterian Church in mid-January.

Jim was born in Canada and grew up in Walnut Creek, California. As a young man, Jim, through the feedback of others, realized that God had given him a gift: the ability to communicate the essential aspects of Christianity in ways that could be easily understood by others.  He developed this gift through his roles as Campus Life Club Director with East Bay Youth for Christ in Concord, CA and as Youth Director at Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church before becoming a pastor.

Jim seeks to fulfill his call to the ministry by proclaiming God’s good news as found in Scripture, through biblical preaching and teaching, leading God’s people in meaningful, thoughtful, and joyful worship, furthering the prayer, care, and fellowship of the community of faith through visitation and programs that draw people closer to one another, assessing the needs in the greater community and seeking to meet some of those needs in the name of Christ, and bringing peace to those in conflict through counsel and mediation. Jim’s Christ-centered approach to ministry and life, his ability to clearly convey the Gospel to all ages, his collaborative and supportive leadership style, and the manner in which he seeks to live out the Fruits of the Spirit clearly show the work of the Holy Spirit in his life.

Jim is supported and encouraged in his ministry by his wife, Pauline, and their children, Libby and Drew. Pauline enjoys gardening and being actively involved in church life. She and Drew will remain in Lewisburg during the week until Drew completes his senior year of high school this spring; however, they plan to spend as many weekends as possible with Jim in Richmond. Libby, a junior at the University of Richmond, is currently finishing a semester abroad in Scotland. In addition to family and church activities, Jim enjoys sports, including golf, cycling, ice skating, skiing, pick-up basketball, and competitive tennis.

Your Servants in Christ,
Barbara Espigh, Beth Heavrin, Ella Johnson, Gene Lepley, Slim Nance, Paul Piotrowski, and Richard Smith
